The Rajasthan police on aunched WhatsApp numbers on which women in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota cities can report cases of crimes against them.
The service is especially for women but it can also be used by common people to alert police about crimes, director general of police Omendra Bhardwaj said after the launch.
He said the crime and atrocities could be reported on WhatsApp through video and audio recordings, photos and voice messages. “The WhatsApp numbers are connected with the police control rooms and will be monitored regularly. The police will act from police stations and mobile patrol vehicles on receiving complaints,” Bhardwaj said, adding that the initiative was being introduced in three cities on a pilot basis.
The officer said the service would be handy for women who could click pictures of number plates of the accused’s vehicles and send to police through WhatsApp. The identity of informers would be kept secret and they would be considered as friends of police.
FIR E-STATUS
The state police launched another initiative ‘FIR e-status’ where a person can track progress of First Information Report in any police station.
The DGP said a link has been given on the police website through which the progress of FIRs could be tracked on mobile phones. This way the people would no longer be required to run to police station to obtain the status of their FIRs, he added.
The police have developed a module on the website http://police.rajasthan.gov.in where a person can find the link to track FIR status. The link can also be obtained through http://police. rajasthan.gov.in/GetFirStatus.aspx.
The FIR status can be found by selecting the police district, police station and year of registration besides entering the FIR number, name of applicant and father/ husband and mobile number. On entering all details, the current status of the FIR would be conveyed on the mobile number provided in the form through an SMS. Status of all cases pending and those registered on or after February 2011 is currently being provided through this facility.

Delhi Police 'Himmat' Whatsapp group for women safety


 Delhi Police on Wednesday launched 'Himmat' Whatsapp and Hike groups for women safety that will assist the force to effectively communicate with women in need of help.
The facility will be available on mobile number 8800001091.
Women travelling by public transport can now send photographs and other details of the vehicle to the police before boarding it.

The details could be sent in the following format: passenger name, boarding vehicle (TSR/Cab/Taxi), from --------- to ------- and the vehicle's registration number. The number is integrated with the PA-100 system and if a emergency is reported on the group, the nearest PCR MPV will be rushed to the spot, police said.

"Those who donot have a smartphone can call police the police on the 1091 helpline. Last year, we received 72,930 calls on the women helpline," he said.
